In his native Mallorca, Ramón Pou i Vidal is famous for his seascapes and depictions of seafarer, his work being represented in Mallorca´s art museum and in private collections of the region. His painting of the steamship Villa de Sóller from the Bartomeu Planas collection was sold at Christie's in 2003.
The present painting depicts the harbour of Palma with villas on the hillside of Castell de Bellver in the background. The artist skilfully depicts the ships and boats on the water and the buildings of Balearic Modernism, until today situated at the corner of the riverside promenade and the Av. d'Antoni Maura and here shown in the lower right.
