A Napoléon III library cabinet

Ebony, tortoiseshell, mahogany and brass on oak, ormolu mountings, glazed doors. Single-door bookcase with camferred angles and breakfront pediment. The base with two drawers, the upper of which containing a sliding ebonised wood writing surface. The front decorated with Boulle style marquetry with brass tendrils inlaid in tortoiseshell, the outer faces with ormolu appliques of two putti with a globe and a rod of Asclepius standing on books. With minor repairs and detached areas. H 245, W 119, D 50.5 cm.

An identical cabinet with a (probably later) mirrored back panel was originally acquired for Queen Elisabeth's toilette room in Berlin Palace (formerly room 492) before being transferred to Charlottenburg Palace in 1892, where it now stands in the Green Room.
