An Islamic mortar

Engraved cast bronze, brownish black patina with some red and green flecks. Cylindrical mortar with protruding upper and lower rims. Decorated with two rows of six raised droplet motifs alternating with raised round medallions engraved with depictions of birds. The lower rim with a meander border, the upper with a band of calligraphy. The base rounded due to use, some cracks. H 13.7, D 13.7 cm, weight c. 3.8 kg.
