An Islamic mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with engraved decoration and traces of red pigment, one half of the vessel severely sintered and with verdigris. Cylindrical mortar with protruding upper rim, decorated with two rows of raised droplet motifs. The upper rim with a band of calligraphy, the lower with a meander. With a horizontal crack due to usage and a diagonal scratch from excavation. H 11.2, D 13.4 cm, weight c. 3.3 kg.
Attributed to Khorasan / Afghanistan, 13th - 14th C.
