A Nuremberg single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with shimmering caramel coloured patina. Mortar of tapering form resting on four paw feet from which issue one short and three long angular ribs. With a protruding moulded rim and a large, angular, octagonally faceted handle. The base slightly rounded due to use and with cracks just above the feet on the inner and outer surfaces, some verdigris. H 18.8, D 17 cm, weight c. 4.5 kg.
