A large Gothic single-handled mortar

Golden brown cast bronze with shimmering and polished natural patina. Of tapering form resting on four stylised paw feet from which issue one shorter and three longer angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and slender, angular, octagonally faceted handle. The lower section slightly rounded due to use, small cracks to the interior and exterior. H 22, D 21.5 cm, weight c. 9.8 kg. Includes a corresponding bronze pestle with a node. L 30 cm.
