A large Nuremberg single-handled mortar

Reddish brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of tapering form resting on four paw feet from which issue one shorter and three longer angular ribs. With flaring moulded rim and angular, octagonally faceted handle. Some minor corrosion to the interior and exterior. The lower section rounded and with three cracks due to use. H 20, D 19.9 cm, weight c. 5 kg. Includes an associated T-shaped iron pestle, the head of which reinforced with bronze. L 34.5 cm.
