An Italian single-handled mortar

Cast bronze with fine shimmering chocolate brown patina. Decorated with broad mouldings, two lions rampant and crossed thistle fronds. The small C-shaped handles with cord relief decoration. The rim slightly uneven and with a few minor dents. H 12.3, D 15.5 cm, weight c. 3.6 kg.
Northern Italy, presumably early 16th C.
