A Meissen porcelain plate from the Saxon court service with the red dragon

The lip decorated with two Japanese style dragons and knots surrounding scrolls and coins. The centre with two ho-ho birds in flight. Blue crossed swords mark, dreher's number 22. owner's mark K.H.C. In purple. D 22.8 cm.
Ca. 1740.

Deliveries intended for the royal court confectioners were only marked with “K.H.C.” from 1739 onwards. Since the court always placed subsequent orders according to requirements, items with this same decor were still produced up until the second half of the 18th century. In 1752, the confectionery still owned 228 plates, but in the inventory of 1765, that is, after the Seven Years' War, only 128 plates were listed for the court silver chamber, court kitchens and court confectioners all together.

Provenance

Private collection, Palatinate.
