An oval Nymphenburg porcelain platter with a harvest scene
An oval Nymphenburg porcelain platter with a harvest scene
Scalloped plate with moulded rim. Painted with a large and detailed scene of peasants cutting corn against a rural landscape backdrop. Impressed rhombus mark, incised 44. Restored. W 43.6 cm.
Ca. 1770 – 75, décor attributed to Joseph Kaltner.
Ziffer provides a short description of the porcelain painter Joseph Kaltner's career: He worked for the Nymphenburg manufactory since his apprenticeship from 1765 to 1776 and, following a stay in Paris, returned to Munich and Vienna in 1780 where he was employed as a court painter and miniaturist. The décor of this platter already anticipates the quality of his later oeuvre.
