A picture clock with Cologne Cathedral

Oil on canvas painting in a softwood surround. Day-running movement with brass striking mechanism, hourly musical chime on six iron gong spirals, spring suspension, short pendulum. H 70, W 89.2, D 13 cm.
Ca. 1800.

This painting depicts Cologne Catherdral prior to its completion seen from the Domhof. In front of the church we see the buildings of the seminary and the church of St. John the Evangelist. This view was disseminated in the form of a print engraved by Johann Andreas Ziegler after a drawing by Laurenz Janscha done in 1789.
