Jan Provost, attributed to

Saint Francis in Ecstasy

At least two further versions are known to exist of this depiction of Saint Francis, which Justus Müller-Hofstede attributes to Jan Provost. One version is housed in the Museo de Bellas Artes de Alva and one in a private collection in Barcelona. The fact that both versions are to be found in Spain suggests that the composition either arrived in the country at some point and was copied, or that it was painted there.
