Probably Nuremberg Early 16th century

An early 16th century carved sandstone head of a bearded man, presumably Nuremberg

Carved in the round, the left and right sides only partially worked. Minimal remains of former polychromy. This lively and finely carved depiction of an older man with prominent cheekbones and a stylised curly beard is a fragment of a larger sculpture, recognisable by the rough surface of the lower back of the head.
Very minor wear. Height 20 cm.

Provenance

South German private collection.
