This image portrays Walter Ophey's future wife Bernhardine, known as Dotty (1879-1968). The couple had met in Düsseldorf in 1904 and married there in 1917. Among the numerous portraits of Bernhardine, the earliest was created in 1905 and can be found today in the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf (Kraus G 124).
