A lacquer octagonal box for the shell game (hokai). Late 19th century

On a tray with eight lobed feet and with a rounded lid, displaying bamboo, plum blossom branches, a single pine sapling and a large family crest (maru ni tachi aoi-mon) on the lid, in gold makie and kirikane on a brown ground.Thick silk cord, the inside lined with dark blue fabric. Minor traces of use.
