A large bronze vase. Second half 20th century

Of bulbous shape with a short neck. The chestnut-coloured patina with flame-like reddish striations. At the base seal-type mark reading, Takeharu (= Yoshino Takeharu, 1920-2008).
Height 30.2 cm; diameter 34.3 cm

Yoshino Takeharu (1920-2008) was a metal artist in 4th generation of the Yoshino workshop founded by Yoshinoya Nizaemon in the Bunsei era (1818-1829). He learned under his father Takejiro (1890-1985) and in the course of time received many awards including the designation of Takaoka dentô kogei sangyo gijutsu hojisha (Holder of traditional crafts and industrial techniques in Takaoka city). Takaoka in Ishikawa prefecture is one of Japan's important centers for artistic metalworks.
