The Henze‘s "giant globe"

A papier mâché and plaster twisting globe in a wooden frame, depicting the earth on a scale of 1:12,000,000. Inscribed and signed by the producer to the north of the Antarctic “Druck und Verlag von ADOLF HENZE in Neustadt-Leipzig”. Restored. H 183 cm.
Leipzig, after 1890.

Werner Kummer researched and published the history of Henze's “giant globe” in 1990. Between 1885 and 1890, the magazines of the Adolf Henze publishing house, which usually specialised in numismatics, included flat sheets printed with 24 sections of the globe and the polar caps. In the December 1890 edition, the company finally offered its customers with the opportunity to send in the collected sections and, for a charge of 30 marks, have them mounted “in a solid form, with base, twisting, complete”.
