A cryptically signed and dated Meissen porcelain chocolatière by Christian Friedrich Herold

With the original gilt metal mountings and ebonised wood handle. Cylindrical vessel with rounded shoulders, decorated on either side with finely painted harbour scenes in large gold cartouches with canopies flanked by figures on brackets in puce camaieu. The lid painted with two merchant navy scenes above and four further miniature scenes in puce. Dated '1730' and monogrammed 'C.F.H.' on the reverse in the centre between two rocks. Faint blue crossed swords mark on the unglazed base, gold 2. (coffee pot and lid). Gilding retouched in some areas. H with lid and handle 20 cm.
