Two Sèvres porcelain plates with cameo portraits of Julius Caesar and Trajan

"Assiette plate" model. Decorated with facing busts designed to resemble chalcedony intaglios, labelled "JULES CESAR" and "TRAJAN" on either side. Pale blue stamped double-L mark and 21 (?), gold "DB II 91 18" and "29 Jn.19", incised marks. D 23.9 and 23.7 cm.
1821.

In 1808, the manufactory produced a first service with cameo painting, the "Service de Dessert à marly fond d'or avec laurier en gris têtes imitant le camée", today in the Hermitage St. Petersburg. In the same year Napoléon commissioned a "service iconographique grec" for St. Cloud. The plates presented here were made in the Louis XVIII period, as was the plate from the Twinight Collection, dated 1823.
