A carved ivory Corpus Christi, circle of Gabriel Grupello
Carved in the round. A depiction of Christ crucified with three nails. He is shown with his arms upraised, His head sunk deeply to one side and in a dynamic pose. This finely carved work can be attributed to an artist from the circle of the Düsseldorf court sculptor Gabriel Grupello, thus making it a German work that can presumably be dated to around 1720.
Very minor discolouration. Mounted together with the original INRI plaque on a modern wooden cross. Height 23 cm. Width of arms 8.5 cm.
South German private collection.
