A rare Berlin KPM porcelain plate with a depiction of the month of February

Model no. 1054. Painted with an allegorical scene of two putti at play in a Medterranean landscape beneath the astrological symbol of Pisces amid clouds. Blue sceptre mark, red painter's mark, impressed marks. D 22.4 cm.
Around 1819, presumably from a dinner service made for the Grand Duke Georg of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

This striking subject was used twice by KPM for two large royal orders after the Franco-Prussian war: once for a dessert plate from the dinner service with the Iron Helmet and secondly for a dinner plate for the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The enigmatic depiction is based on an unsigned drawing that served as a model for the porcelain painter.
