A Meissen porcelain tea caddy with Deianeira and Nessos

The reverse painted with Venus and Cupid amid clouds. The original lid with trophies.
Includes a cup with black and red roses, aquired in 1979. Blue crossed swords mark with star, three black dots, dreher's number 58. H 12.5 cm.

This depiction of Nessos and Deianeira illustrates an episode from Ovid's Metamorphoses and was based on the engraving "Enlèvement de Déjanire par le centaure Nessus" by Jean-Jacques le Veau after Jean-Michel Moreau.
