A Baroque mortar with a heraldic cartouche

Porous, golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina (with minor verdigris). Bell-shaped mortar on a moulded base. The display side emblazoned with a large rocaille cartouche bearing a bull? rampant, the reverse with three delicately veined leaf casts. With two scroll handles. The base slightly concave due to usage, with sediment deposits to the interior, minor casting flaws to the outer surface. H 16, D 18.5 cm, weight c. 5.6 kg.
Northern Italy or Austria, 1680.
