A Spanish mortar with mascaron ribs

Golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Decorated with four barleytwist column ribs terminating in mascarons, a Medusa motif, a lion, a scallop shell and a further heavily worn relief. With minor dents around the rim and wear throughout. H 8.5, D 12 cm, weight c. 2 kg.
Attributed to Spain, 16th C.
