An important Hamburg Baroque silver tankard

Cylindrical parcel-gilt tankard with a hinged lid and rounded basal ring. Decorated throughout with a finely chased depiction of peasants resting in a bucolic landscape, the handle and thumbrest with elaborate auricular mouldings. The slightly domed lid inset with a medallion depicting a soldier on a rearing horse. H 22.5 cm, weight 1,825 g.
Marks of Jürgen Richels, around 1680.
