Clay floor tiles from the Aachen and Cologne region

Comprising five single tiles and two sections of flooring made up of four / twelve tiles mounted in reversible plexiglass frames. From c. 10.5 x 10.5 to c. 15 x 15 cm.
15th - 16th C.

Provenance

Former German private collection; acquired 26th September 1985 from Nagel auction house in Stuttgart.

Literature

This type in Landgraf, Ornamentierte Bodenfliesen des Mittelalters, Stuttgart 1993. According to Landdgraf, the four mounted tiles (G49b) originate from the Kornelismünster in Aachen.
