Estimate: 6.000 €

A pair of Régence carved oak chairs

Replaced upholstery with brass nails. Of serpentine design. With embroidered silk and wool covers of the period depicting courtly figures in landscapes, the trompe l'oeil frame surrounds partially reconstructed. H 98.5, seat depth 42 cm.
Attributed to Liège, second quarter 18th C.

The upholstered backrest is also found on a chair in the Museum für Angewandte Kunst Cologne (inv. no. A 687). This is not typical of Liège furniture - so it could be that the upholstery dates from a later period. The finely embroidered covers date from the same period, but were probably not originally planned for the chairs.
