An ormolu pendulum clock with a maenad

Fire-gilt and burnished bronze, marble, white enamel dial. With a flattened 14-day running pendulum movement with spring suspension and half-hourly striking on a bell. Depicting a female figure lying on a chaise holding a large bunch of grapes, with a grapevine wreath around her head and a tambourine at her feet. The chaise decorated with mascarons, panthers, a ram and musical instrument motifs. Signed on the dial and the back "Le Sieur à Paris". Chips to the edges of the marble, the bronze slightly mottled. The hands replaced. H 52.5, W 48.3, D 17.4 cm.
Paris, early 19th C., this model attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751 - 1843).
