A Flemish carved wood figure of Saint Barbara, around 1480/1490

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. Minimal remains of former polychromy. Depicting the saint in a fashionable gown and a large headdress. The attribute, the tower, which was depicted on her right and was still extant when the piece was offered at auction in 1958, has since been lost.
With round cracks to the top of the head. The right hand probably a replacement. The lower section removed before 1958. Two small losses at hip height. With a small carved addition to the back left edge. Height 88 cm.

Lempertz auction, Cologne 28.11.1958, lot 961a (as Antwerp, around 1510). - Subsequently in a West German private collection.
