Vitus Graupensberg

A carved beechwood figure of Christ resurrected, by Vitus Graupensberg

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and only partially worked. With minimal remains of former polychromy. This small relief of the resurrected Saviour can be dated to around 1750. It depicts Christ with the stigmata and the Cross, floating amid clouds and surrounded by angels. In a cave carved into the rock that forms the base of the sculpture, we see the defeated Satan with a human skeleton. The right edge of the cross inscribed "Krauppensberg".
Hairline cracks to the plinth and the horizontal beam of the Cross. Minor wear throughout. Height 24 cm.
