This half-length portrait depicts the Roman sculptor, painter and architect Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini. The portrait is a - presumably contemporary - replica of the portrait Giovanni Battista Gaulli painted of his important friend around 1675. Gaulli's painting is slightly larger (99 x 74.5 cm) and is housed in the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh.
