Norbert Bisky - Boezemvriend
Oil on canvas. 150 x 100 cm. Signed, dated and titled '"BOEZEMVRIEND" Bisky '2018 bisky 2018' verso on canvas.
Norbert Bisky has dared something unusual in the artwork "Boezemvriend": the colour field within the lower half of the picture is clearly an attempt of uncontrolled application, of tightly thinned acrylic, which the artist lets run over the canvas. Bisky deliberately leaves the resulting outline untouched and paints around the resulting shape. Following his typical painterly style, he adds two young men looking to the left. The figure on the right has cautiously put his arm around the second viewer, leaning against him. The depiction evokes intimacy and a quiet harmony. The bodies contrast with the blue of the sky and the pink of the lower half, bridging the abstract and figurative realms. The viewer's gaze wanders across these three areas and is invited to look to the left beyond the picture plane, to ponder what the two figures might be looking at.
