The commissioned work which Fritz Klimsch created for the von Eberhardt family, shows the siblings Carl Heinrich (1898 or 1899-1950) and Liselotte von Eberhardt (1901-1998), the children of Commander Walter von Eberhardt - whose military career propelled him to the rank of Lieutenant General – and his wife Alice, née von Graefe. The couple lived for a long time in Berlin and were good friends with Klimsch. A bronze bust the artist made of Alice von Eberhadt (1976-1963), is also offered in this auction.
During the Second World War, Carl Heinrich moved with his family to Africa, and died in Karlsruhe after returning to Germany. In 1922, his sister Liselotte married Bogislav Count von Schwerin who belonged to a family of old Mecklenburg and Pomeranian nobility with a long military tradition; the couple had two children.
