Jérémie Queyras

Untitled (Pour l'Ukraine)
2022

Acrylic on canvas. 200 x 500 cm. Signed and dated 'J. Queyras 19.03.2022.' verso on canvas.

The starter question: What colour is music? On 19 March 2022, the internationally renowned cellist and Artist in Residence at the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, Jean-Guihen Queyras, together with his son, the painter Jérémie Queyras, and soloists of the Gürzenich Orchestra, performed an extraordinary collaborative programme in the Trinitatiskirche in Cologne: To the sounds of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Henri Dutilleux and Pierre Boule, a large format painting was created by Jérémie Queyras. In the interplay of sounds and colours, gestures and stillness, the audience was treated to a fascinating fusion of the arts.
Jérémie Queyras was born in Paris in 1997. Surrounded by professional musicians from a young age, he concurrently spent much time with art. He was thus inspired to explore the relationship between painting and music, and often performs together with musicians in live performances in which he paints to music.
The painting will be auctioned in aid of Ukraine-Hilfe.
