Paul Jacoulet

Une Jeune Fille de Fidji. Oceanie

Portrait of a woman with tortoise shell comb in her hair. Sign. in pencil: Paul Jacoulet. Fan-shaped seal: Jakurei. Watermark: JP. Jakurei. Block carver: Yamagishi Kazue. First edition (without title): 54/150. 1935. Fine impression, blind printing, very good colours, browned on verso (bleeding to front), light foxing, crease in upper right corner, traces of former mounting in corners verso (stains, thin areas), lower margin slightly trimmed.
49 x 37.4 cm

In the first impressions, the earrings were printed in a bronze metallic pigment. Soon it was replaced by matte gold, as seen in this impression. The background had to be printed three times in order to reach the saturated and intense salmon colour. The lines in the eyebrows are astonishingly fine, which shows the skills of Yamagishi.
