Paris, Louis Dauthiau, 1745 - 49.

The most famous commission of the clockmaker Louis Dauthiau, born in 1713, was the large astronomical clock in the Château de Versailles, which today stands in the Salon de la Pendule and is considered one of the highlights of the collections. After a long phase of planning with the initiator, engineer and astronomer Claude-Siméon Passemant (1702 - 1769), this joint life's work reached completion and was presented for the first time in August 1749. The clock shown here was also made during this period and, from what we can infer from the decoration, was almost certainly ordered by the court.
