This large landscape painting combines the characteristic features of Marco Ricci's art. He was a nephew of the Venetian painter Sebastiano Ricci, an artist in demand throughout Europe, with whom he frequently collaborated. However, already in his early years Marco specialised in landscape painting, which was rather rare in Venice. We owe him magnificent views of the so-called "terra ferma", the mainland of Venice.
