A Viennese cast iron domestic altar

Depicting the Virgin on the crescent in a Neogothic surround. Engraved "Glanz m. Vorb." on the reverse. H 14.2 cm.
Vienna, K.K. Landesprivilegierte Bronce- & Eisengießerei Joseph Glanz, 1831 - 1866.

Born in Lviv (Ukraine) in 1795, Joseph Glanz trained as a sculptor in the studio of Christian Daniel Rauch and worked as a chaser in the Berlin iron foundry. In 1826 he went into business for himself as an iron founder, settling a few years later in Vienna, where he ran a flourishing iron and bronze foundry.
