A cast zinc model showing the triumph of Cupid over Hercules and Jupiter

Cast in one piece, patinated and bronzed. Showing Cupid sitting on the pelt of the Nemean lion holding Jupiter's lightning bolts. H with ebonised wood plinth 52.2 cm.
Berlin foundry, model by Adolph Bräunlich, 1832.

Adolph Bräunlich's (1805 - 1892) triumphant Cupid was probably first exhibited as a plaster model at the Berlin Academy exhibition in 1832. The marble version was first shown at the exhibition in 1856. Edme Bouchardon sculpted a marble figure of Cupid with almost identical iconography in 1750 (Louvre, MR 1761; N 15440). In 1836, Emil Wolff also created an interpretation of this theme in marble that stands today in the Friedrichswerdersche church.
