Charles Hoguet came from a French family that settled in Berlin. After his initial training with the marine painter Wilhelm August Krause, he moved to Paris in 1839 for further training, where he worked with Eduard Hildebrandt in the studio of Eugéne Isabey. After a longer trip to England he returned to the French capital again in 1841. In 1848 he finally came back to Berlin, where he regularly took part in the art exhibitions of the academy and became a well-known genre painter.
