A Berlin KPM porcelain figure of Joan of Arc from Versailles

Model no. 1731. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, decor no. 140/313, I in grey, 50 in purple, impressed with model no. and year letter L. H 34.5 cm.
1911, the model from around 1840.

The original model of the praying Virgin of Orléans, sculpted around 1840, is based on a marble sculpture that the French Princess Marie d'Orléans (1813 - 1839), married Duchess of Württemberg, designed for Versailles in around 1837. A bronze version stands in front of Orléans City Hall. Before Sèvres developed their small sculpture in bisque porcelain, KPM already had a version on offer, although it was rarely moulded. It was not until 1910 that KPM began to offer a colourfully painted version of the figure, with particular attention paid to the golden armour and the skirt decorated with the French fleur-de-lys.
