A pair of modern armchairs

Oak, stained dark brown, transparent varnish, seat with spring upholstery, with reconstructed cotton and Tussah silk cover, metal studs. H 114, W 68.5, seat depth 55 cm.
Germany, 1900s.

These two armchairs clearly display elements of the new style of furniture developing at the beginning of the 20th century. Above all, the influence from Darmstadt is present in the hook-shaped terminals of the chair backs, which can also be found on a chair in the Christiansen house, published in 1901.
