A Bengali or Orissa copper alloy figure of Venugopala. Southern India, Karnataka. Probably 17th century

Standing on one leg and placing the right leg on the head of a naga, holding the hands as if he were playing a flute, the hair twisted into a tiered chignon, large rings at the ears, the body adorned by a necklace, armlets and a multistringed girdle with little bells around the hip, and high sandals at the feet. Mounted on a tiered bronze lotus base.
