A courtly Arolsen silver chamberstick

Large shell-shaped drip pan with handle to one side and a central shaft formed as a hippocampus. The vase-form nozzle engraved "E.E.v.W." beneath a ducal crown. H 7.8; W 14; D 11 cm, weight 242 g.
Marks of Johann Georg Friedrich Welle, around 1820.

By repute, this chamberstick is said to originate from the estate of the Dukes of Württemberg at Carlsruhe castle in Silesia.

Corrigendum:
According to current scholarship, the maker's mark is attributed to Friedrich Wilhelm Albert Welle (ca. 1829 - 1877, cf. Neuhaus Arolsen, Nr. 11).
