A Meissen porcelain potpourri painted with Cupid after Anton Raphael Mengs

Model H 20. Blue crossed swords mark with star and M, dreher's no. 25, model no. Minor glaze chips around the screw mounting between the vase and shaft, minor wear to the gilding. H 30.2 cm.
Around 1785, model by Michel Victor Acier and Christian Gottfried Jüchtzer.

The painting on the front of this vase is based on the pastel "Cupid, Grinding the Arrow" by Anton Raphael Mengs, created in 1752/53, which is now housed in the Old Masters Picture Gallery Dresden, inv. no. gal. no. P 177. The Cupid is one of the most popular and often copied motifs from the collection.
