Chased and patinated bronze. H 11.5, H with ebonised wood plinth 24.7 cm.

Born in Florence, Francesco Fanelli (1577 - after 1657) learned sculpture and bronze casting in the studio of Giambologna, Pietro Francavilla and Pietro Tacca. He probably stayed in London from 1610 to 1642. During this time he advanced to become the "sculptor of the King".
