A horizontal travel sundial

Silver and brass, blued steel hand, glazing. Octagonal base. The upper face with four engraved dials, a folding gnomon and a small round compass. The underside engraved with the pole positions and the names of 20 European cities. Engraved "SAVTOVT L' AINÉ A PARIS" to the underside. L 6.7, W 5.8 cm. In the original red silk lined leather case (lock damaged).
Paris, late 17th / early 18th C.
