A pair of George III wall lights

Gilt softwood, plaster, tin and wire. Each with three scroll branches around fluted column shafts and finials formed as perching eagles. Some wear to the gilding, the nozzles drilled for (no longer existant) electrical wiring. H c. 90 cm.
England, late 18th C.

These extravagantly designed appliques are inspired by the decor recommendations of the English designer Thomas Sheraton (1751 - 1806) in "The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book", which was first published in 1791.
