A pair of carved beechwood Art Nouveau armchairs

Brandmarked "A.Landry" on the back of the apron. The textile covers replaced. H 95, seat depth 39 cm.
Abel Landry, around 1906, presumably created for the salon of the Société des artistes décorateurs.

Abel Landry (1868 Limoges 1923) designed this chair model without armrests in 1903 for La Maison Moderne. Founded in 1898 by Julius Meier-Graefe, the shop featured an interior designed by Henry van de Velde and was a competitor to Samuel Bing's Maison de l'Art Nouveau or Hôtel de l'Art Nouveau. Both propagated the new home culture and represented contemporary artists.

Provenance

From a South German private collection.
