Portrait of a Young Man in Dark Attire

Oil on canvas (relined). 119.5 x 93.5 cm.

The man stands before the viewer on a terrace as if extending an invitation. His soft, youthful features give him a charming appearance.
The sensitively captured, lively physiognomy of the sitter was a skill of Isaak Luttichuys that made him an admired and sought-after painter among the wealthy merchant class in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. The present work was presumably painted in his workshop.
